Specs-wise, the XG438Q’s panel is capable of outputting at a resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160). It’s also a DisplayHDR 600 compliant monitor, featuring a maximum HDR brightness of 500 nits and and 15 individual dimming zones. As if that weren’t enough, the display also comes with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, In terms of ports, the XG438Q comes features DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, several USB 3.0 ports, along with a 3.5mm earphone jack.
As a ROG strix gaming monitor, the XG438Q comes equipped not with NVIDIA’s G-Sync module, but with a AMD’s FreeSync 2 anti-screen tearing technology. Having said that, there is a possibility that this could be one of the additional 100 FreeSync monitor that NVIDIA could add to their list of G-Sync compatible monitors in the near future. Until then, the one card that we believe would best complement this gaming monitor is the recently announced AMD Radeon VII graphics card.
At the time of writing, ASUS was not able to provide us with local availability or pricing. However, given the sum of its parts, it’s clear that this gaming monitor isn’t going to be cheap, and could even end up costing just as much as the brand’s ROG Swift PG27UQ, if not more. And even if it does arrive on our shores, ASUS may only bring it a limited number of them.
