Original Article – 5:21PM, 14 October 2022: Luxury watch brand Tag Heuer has collaborated with Nintendo for a Mario-themed watch before, in the form of the Connected smart watch. It was pretty fancy in its own right, with the price to match. Now, the two companies have collaborated again for two special edition watches of the more traditional variety, but with much higher prices. Between double and over ten times, in fact. These are the Tag Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart limited edition watches, coming in Chronograph and Tourbillon Chronograph variations. The former is naturally the more affordable one of the two, in the loosest definition of the word. It comes with a 44mm polished steel case, with the watch coming mostly in black, with some red accents tastefully placed. At the back, you get a stainless steel plate with the Mario Kart logo engraved. The latter is slightly larger, coming with a 45mm case made of grade 5 titanium. Rather than a stainless steel back, this comes with sapphire glass, allowing you to see the inner workings of the watch. The Mario Kart logo is here as well, and as before, the watch comes in mostly back, with red accents here and there. Now for their prices. As mentioned, the Tag Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Chronograph is the more affordable watch of the two. But even on the brand’s Malaysia site, it is listed with a price of US$4300 (~RM20223). According to VGC, there are only 3000 of these. As for the Tourbillon Chronograph model, this comes in at an eye-watering US$25600 (~RM120397). These are even more limited, with only 250 units that will be available.
