The last film of the Skywalker Saga, the saga that has spanned three trilogies and multiple decades is called… drop everything and brace yourself:
Can you believe that it’s been two years since the first footage of The Last Jedi was unveiled at the 2017 Star Wars celebration? The Rian Johnson film was polarising and split the hardcore fanbase in half. Some (like myself) love the movie, while others wished it could be wiped out completely from the face of the earth. But now, JJ Abrams, the man who helmed The Force Awakens, is back at the helm. Could he do what he did with The Force Awakens and bring a divided fanbase together again? JJ took the job as the director of Episode IX knowing that it’s going to be one heck of an uphill battle. He knew that he had the tall task of not only picking up where he left off but also continue Rian Johnson’s story. Supreme Leader Snoke is dead, Luke Skywalker is dead and Rey’s parents are nobodies. On top of that, there are also questions surrounding the Knights of Ren. And of course the biggest hurdle: the passing of Carrie Fisher. I don’t know if the movie will end up being great (fingers crossed), but the teaser trailer sure as hell is. Check it out below: UPDATE Also at the Episode IX panel, director JJ Abrams mentioned that the film will not take place immediately after The Last Jedi, but some time after. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit cinemas this December.
