Once this feature has been implemented, artists and labels will be able to pick which music gets signal boosted. The company’s algorithms will then automatically display relevant music from an artist or label within listeners’ recommendation sections on Spotify.
In terms of pricing, artists or labels are not required to pay an upfront fee. They can instead choose to be paid a promotional royalty fee wherever this feature is in effect. This likely means less royalties for each song streamed this way. Additionally, Spotify has also mentioned that they will only suggest music which sparks interest from listeners. If the music does not gain interest from listeners, Spotify will not display the said music again. At the time of writing, there is no word as to when this feature will be officially announced. However, as part of their initial testing, Spotify will test this feature within the Radio and Autoplay section first before introducing it to other sections within the app, after gaining results from their current test.
