Officially launched through a livestream via its official YouTube channel, the Xperia 5 II is Sony’s latest flagship and second premium smartphone to be released this year, after the Xperia 1 II. As I mentioned in my earlier report, much of the phone’s hardware and features are identical in almost every conceivable way, save for its size and some aesthetics.
Internally, the Xperia 5 II is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, 8GB RAM, and a 4000mAh battery. Internal storage capacity is set at 256GB, but you can expand it via microSDXC by a maximum of 1TB. Further, the phone’s Full HD+ OLED display measures in at 6.1-inches and support HDR and Sony’s 21:9 CinemaWide display technology. Camera-wise, the phone’s main camera module comprises three 12MP sensors and again, like the Xperia 1 II, it is loaded with tweaks from Sony’s Alpha series camera team and ZEISS imaging technology.
Other features of the Xperia 5 II include a 3.5mm headphone jack, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a dedicated shutter button to make the most out of the phone’s triple-camera setup. At the time of writing, Sony Malaysia did not provide local pricing or a specific launch date for the Xperia 5 II.
