The report came via Bloomberg, which said that its sources within Sony recognised that the move is an unpopular one to make. A company spokesperson, on the other hand, said that the company is reserving that price for its “biggest games”. Other games will be launching for “as little as US$50 (~RM206)”.
On one hand, it’s fortunate that SIE ultimately did not price their games higher than its US$70 mark. Even as it is, the timing for it couldn’t be worse. The price increase for video games hiked alongside a global health crisis, with a fair number of people getting less disposable income, if any at all. But despite the price hike, game publishers are still expected to sell premium or deluxe editions for higher prices. And while extremely unsavoury, publishers of sports titles are expected to continue with lootboxes. At least, until more markets push back against it. (Source: Bloomberg)
