Instead, we’re talking about Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, who doesn’t shred strings, but rather, bad guys. She essentially stole the show away from Max throughout the film. Since then, the character has seen a rise in pop-culture relevance and has been featured in multiple lists with regard to the “best female characters in film”, some even of all time. And now, she seems set on getting her own spin-off. A new report from Variety recently broke the news about the new developments for the Mad Max spinoff. Director George Miller has been said to be taking an active role in looking for a cast as he aims to shoot the feature next year. In fact, he has already auditioned one promising talent: Anya-Taylor Joy – via Skype, of course, due to the Coronavirus concerns. Miller has been enthusiastic about getting the project off the ground but has seen setbacks over the past few years. A lawsuit between his production company and Warner Bros. over Fury Road’s budgetary claims drew tensions between the director and the studio. However, since developments are being made, the pot must have cooled. Earlier last week, George Miller obtained the green light to write and direct his next project, Three Thousand Years of Longing, which was described as an “opposite of Fury Road”, the Mad Max antithesis. However, he noted that his Furiosa spin-off and other Mad Max projects will also be developed concurrently. “I’m not done with the Mad Max story and I think you have to be a multitasker, and there’s certainly another Mad Max coming down the pike after this. We’re in preparation on that as well.”, Miller told of his ambition.
