“This partnership with Polyphony Digital signifies the next phase of sport photography and the true growth that is occurring across the esports landscape,” said Getty Images global head of content Ken Mainardis. The agency’s goal is to bridge the gap between the real and virtual worlds and provide brands and the media with content to engage the eSports audience. To facilitate this, Polyphony Digital has developed a fully functioning camera system within Gran Turismo that will be accessible to Getty Images photographers. This would enable them to have full control over shutter speed, aperture and other options – basically photo mode, but for professional photographers.
On top of the specially designed camera system, the photographers will also be able to move around within the game world without any restrictions. This would enable them to easily move from one spot to another throughout a race to capture photos. The only catch is that the “free move” mode and camera system is only available via a specialised PS4 unit provided by Getty and Polyphony to the photographers.
We never thought we’d see the day that in-game screenshots are eligible to be licensed by Getty Images, but here we are.
