However, an announcement from the official Geek Fam Dota 2 page has revealed that the team has unfortunately encountered visa issues, leading to their decision to withdraw from the main event of the tournament which features a $300,000 USD prize pool and is taking place on the 25th and 27th of this month. Despite this unfortunate news, fans of Geek Fam still have another big tournament to look forward to thanks to the fact that the team was also able to qualify as the sole Southeast Asian representative for the main event of Dota Summit 11.
Dota Summit 11 will be taking place in Los Angeles on the 7th-10th of November and will also feature a prize pool of $300,000 USD. However, Dota Summit 11 also holds the status of being a minor event on the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC), meaning that teams who participate in the event will stand a chance to earn valuable DPC points that will go towards qualifying for The International 2020. Given that Dota Summit 11 is a DPC event while ESL One Hamburg is not, perhaps it’s for the best that Geek Fam forgoes participation at ESL One Hamburg so that they can focus on Dota Summit 11 instead and get a potential head start on qualifying for The International – a goal that most premier Dota teams strive towards all year long.
