The new Epic Games store and digital platform is effectively a direct competitor to Valve’s Steam. While it’s no secret that the Fortnite developer will be facing an uphill battle against the industry leader and other digital PC game platforms (e.g. EA’s Origin and Ubisoft’s UPlay), the company is already setting itself apart from the crowd with its profits sharing model. Instead of taking a typical 30% cut from developers, Epic Games only takes 12%. In addition, should a game be developed using the Unreal Engine, the developer will automatically waive its usual 5% royalty fee. (Source: Epic Games, The Verge)
