Naturally, fans began to speculate if we were getting a sequel to the Tony-winning play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (written by Jack Thorne) or maybe even a movie/TV adaptation of the acclaimed play. Some even began to wonder if a Cursed Child film trilogy was in the works.
— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) September 5, 2019 Unfortunately, Rowling later took to Twitter to debunk these rumours. She said:
This was then retweeted by the franchise’s official community, Pottermore which stating that there will be some exciting Cursed Child news dropping, but it’s nothing to do with a movie.
— Wizarding World (@wizardingworld) September 5, 2019 To properly put a lid on the rumour, a representative of the Cursed Child production emailed Entertainment Weekly saying: In all honesty, this is a good thing. As far as movies are concerned, Rowling already has her plate full with the not so Fantastic Beasts movies. Thus far, those movies have been tiresome and directionless and Rowling herself, while a bloody brilliant author has proven herself to be a less than stellar screenwriter. I think it’s best for Rowling and gang to focus on getting the Fantastic Beasts movies right first before moving on to other projects in the Harry Potter universe.
