The rumour comes by way of Canon Rumors, who says that development on a potential EOS 5D Mark V was stopped “some time ago” and that the series could end up “going the way of the EOS 7D series”. This despite the brand being aware of the lineup’s popularity among professional photographers and fans, alike.
Canon introduced the EOS 5D lineup back in 2005. Till today, the camera is regarded as the brand’s first full-frame DSLR that features a standard DSLR size. Unfortunately for the brand, the popularity of DSLR cameras soon began to wane after the arrival of the full-frame mirrorless camera; a market that has long been dominated by Sony. However, after years of ignoring the issue, Canon launched the EOS R, its first ever full-frame mirrorless professional camera, in 2018. Since then, the brand hasn’t looked back, and has visibly devoted the majority of its effort and resources towards the mirrorless lineup, as well its new RF mount instead of the EF mount.
