Naturally, for this project, Netflix is partnering with the game’s developer and publisher, 2K Games, and its parent company Take-Two Interactive. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film adaptation does not yet have a writer or filmmaker tied to it yet.
Netflix + BioShock. Would you kindly stay tuned? pic.twitter.com/Ke1oJQileX — Netflix Geeked (@NetflixGeeked) February 15, 2022 This wouldn’t be the first attempt at making a Bioshock film, but there’s a chance that it would be the first successful one. A previous attempt saw The Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski giving it a go, not too long after the first game’s initial release. But that attempt was left in limbo for a very long time before it was eventually scrapped. Assuming this attempt does go smoothly, the underwater city of Rapture does make for an interesting setting for a film. But it probably wouldn’t be able to tell the same kind of story as the video game did. (Source: Netflix [1], [2], The Hollywood Reporter)
